Free guided hike sponsored by Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation. Start at Petersburg Pass and walk north steeply uphill at first on the Taconic Crest Trail through white quartz outcroppings to views west into NY State. After a mile, take a right onto the Birch Brook Trail, leading down to the Hopkins Memorial Forest Loop, built originally as a carriage road for Amos L. Hopkins, who owned the once-farmed land. Hopkins Forest now serves as a biology research center of Williams College.
The hike is a moderate 3+ hours. Water, snack and sturdy shoes or boots recommended. Meet at Hopkins Forest parking lot, Northwest Hill Rd. at 9 AM to carpool to Petersburg Pass. Severe weather cancels.
