Berkshire Natural Resources Council
A land conservation and environmental advocacy group working throughout the Berkshires in Massachusetts to preserve threatened lands.

Rensselaer-Taconic Land Conservancy
A Non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the distinctive rural character and quality of life that makes Rensselaer County a great place to live and work.

Nature Conservancy
Working with communities, businesses and people to protect more than 92 million acres around the world.

The Trustees of Reservations
Preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts.

Land Trust Alliance
National convener, strategist and representative of more than 1,500 land trusts across America. Provides training, publications, lobbying services, and strategic planning to help leverage and connect the work of member land trusts.

Agricultural Preservation Restriction Program (APR)
State of Massachusetts program that offers to pay farmers the difference between the “fair market value” and the “agricultural value” of their farmland in exchange for a permanent deed restriction which precludes any use of the property that will have a negative impact on its agricultural viability.

Sheffield Land Trust
Dedicated to protecting the land essential to Sheffield’s natural, scenic, rural and agricultural character through a program of stewardship and by working with landowners, farmers and other partners.

American Farmland Trust
Founded in 1980, American Farmland Trust has helped win permanent protection for over a million acres of American farmland. The Trust’s hard work and sound strategies unite farmers, environmentalists and policymakers.

New England Heritage Breeds Conservancy
A non-profit corporation, with a farm located on 300 acres in Salisbury, CT. Works to conserve historic and endangered breeds of livestock and poultry and encourage production of these breeds to advance farmland. Programs include breeding programs, education, farmer assistance and marketing alternatives.

Northeast Organic Farming Association – Mass Chapter
NOFA/Mass is a community including farmers, gardeners, landscapers and consumers working to educate members and the general public about the benefits of local organic systems based on complete cycles, natural materials, and minimal waste for the health of individual beings, communities and the living planet.

Local Resources

Berkshire Conservation District
Non-profit environmental education organization working with the Natural Resource Conservation Service to protect the soil and water of Berkshire County. Technical assistance & education on soil, water and related natural resources for municipalities, farmers and landowners to facilitate proper land use decisions.
