Williamstown is blessed with two major north-south hiking trails, the Appalachian Trail and the Taconic Crest Trail. Have you ever wished you could get from one trail to the other, so as to hike a complete “ring” around Williamstown? Maybe one day you can. Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation has announced plans to create a continuous “Ring Trail.”
WRLF is continuing the Ring Hikes as part of its 2018 series of nine guided hikes. The six Ring Hikes will take place on Saturdays this summer. Each segment of the “Ring Hike” will follow established hiking trails that lead up and over Mt. Greylock, Berlin Mountain and East Mountain.
The first segment, “Ring Hike #1”, will start at the summit of Mt. Greylock, then on to Stony Ledge, and the Roaring Brook trail head. Hikers will meet at 9 am at the Roaring Brook trail head on Roaring Brook Rd., off Rt. 7, in Williamstown and car-pool to the summit of Mt. Greylock. Bring water, sunscreen, a snack, and wear sturdy shoes or boots. No need to sign up. Severe weather cancels.
